DCUK FM were tasked with travelling to Nigeria to carry out works upon one of the many Floating Storage Energy Vessels, owned by a main platform operator, which was located off of the Nigerian coast in the South Atlantic Ocean.
DCUK FM sent a team from our Asbestos Division who were flown to the ship via helicopter after completing Bosiet (basic off shore emergency training) and then lived on the ship for 2 weeks whilst the works were completed.
The works consisted of the removal and disposal of asbestos insulation to pipe work and firebreaks, and encapsulation to asbestos penetrations to partitions within the structure under controlled conditions, within the functioning Gas & Oil Ship off of the Coast of Nigeria. Woven asbestos materials were removed or encapsulated dependent on the most suitable option, given the ship’s function was to stay as a working vessel whilst our works took place.
