Our Training Academy is a self-contained part of our Head Office, with its own welfare facilities and visitor parking. The Training Academy has two classrooms, which each seat up to 12 delegates. All delegates have access to an iPad tablet, which is networked to course material and to the SMART interactive white boards in each classroom. The learning sessions have been designed pragmatically to break up the course and are visually effective to engage each delegate.
There is a practical training area, replicating workplace environments including common hazards. The focus for the practical area is to provide a ‘touch and feel’ experience for various components but in a safe working environment

Around a quarter of the 24,000 accidental fires in UK non-domestic buildings each year are caused by cooking appliances. Fires are an occupational hazard in commercial kitchens, but their impact is made far worse by the rapid spread of the fire through poorly maintained grease extract systems and ductwork. If grease deposits in uncleaned ductwork are ignited they will spread the fire rapidly to other parts of the building.
Many insurance companies now make it a condition of cover that building managers have a planned maintenance strategy in place and, before paying out following a fire, they will insist on seeing evidence that ductwork cleaning had been carried out. Failure to comply can invalidate building insurance cover.

We also specialise in the removal of asbestos contamination from within ventilation systems. Where asbestos has been installed or removed incorrectly close to ventilation inlets or return air grilles, there is a very high risk that asbestos fibres can be drawn into the ventilation system. If asbestos goes undetected in a ventilation system there is a significant probability that a conventional cleaning operation will disturb and release asbestos fibres into the ductwork system, creating a health risk to all the building occupants.

The App enable workflow process from job commencement to completion without the need for paper. Resource is managed through a Web Portal and works are allocated to each Supervisor who can accept the works assigned and review the RAMS. All nominated helpdesk employees are trained on communication and telephone skills and have vast practical experience covering the main services that we provide such as ventilation hygiene, asbestos removal and reinstatement works; it is likely that the call will be answered by a fully qualified manager, contracts manager, site manager or senior personnel. Maintenance of dampers is often overlooked as part of an overall maintenance regime, following the adage ‘out of sight, out of mind’. Dampers are located within ventilation and air conditioning ducts and designed to prevent the spread of fire inside the ductwork. This process forms a critical part of any passive fire strategy. In the event of a rise in temperature, typically caused by heat or smoke, the damper will close, usually activated by a thermal component. Heat or smoke identified within the system may indicate presence of a fire, which should activate the closure of the damper blades and prevent the spread of fire through the building.
Fire Damper - A fire damper is defined as; “A moveable closure within a duct which is operated automatically or manually and is designed to prevent the passage of fire”
Fire dampers should be inspected annually as a minimum for correct function and condition in line with the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 and physically cleaned when required. Inspection and functional testing of smoke/fire dampers should be separately specified.
Smoke Damper A smoke damper is defined as; “A moveable closure within a duct which is operated automatically or manually and is designed to prevent or allow the passage of smoke”
Fire damper testing, cleaning and maintenance must be performed in accordance with BS 9999:2017. This recently updated guidance now specifies that all fire dampers should be drop tested, cleaned and maintained at least every year. The revised standard also features updated recommendations for smoke and heat control; fire curtain barrier assemblies; mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning systems; shopping complexes; and ducting. Premises such as hospitals, may require the application of additional guidance, for example, Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 03-01: Specialised ventilation for healthcare premises Part B:
To assist with the delivery of damper training and competence, DCUK FM have installed a damper wall with a variety of passive fire components installed. This enables training to be completed in a real life environment, which demonstrates good and poor practices such as a lack of fire compartmentation and non-operational dampers.
The damper training is conducted at our state of the art training academies in Welwyn Garden City and Ossett.

DCUK FM carry out all aspects of fan maintenance for social housing landlords. Our in-house teams can remove, replace or repair; fan housings, fan motors, motor re-winds, motor drives, pulleys, pillow blocks, fan belts, new impellers and carry out dynamic balancing. We provide all associated electrical checks and where required will supply and install new wiring, combined auto-change over and speed controllers, local isolators and distribution boards.
On completion of any activities carried out we will issue an electronic maintenance or repair report for all serviced items.
We also remove and replace fans where it is no longer cost effective to service or replace parts. All new fans installed are ERP (Energy Related Product) 2015 compliant, with a specific fan power level of less than 0.5 watts per litre per second. Our fans are bespoke and can therefore be manufactured to fit most existing up stands or site restrictions. All fans are manufactured from high quality powder coated galvanized sheet steel, fitted with acoustic non-hygroscopic foam and non-overloading 100,000 hour long life, low energy motors.
We can calculate annual savings on power used between the old and our proposed units, previous installations have reduced costs in excess of £1000.00 per annum per fan on energy costs.
Our average down time for a fan change is four hours.
All works are inspected, tested and serviced in accordance with current guidelines and legislation.
